This calculator compares the cost of wet, dry and mixed feeding using your own package prices and daily serving amounts. It does not estimate how much your cat should eat. Use the feeding directions for the specific food and ask your veterinarian about the right amount for your cat.
Calculate your cat food cost
Enter only the formats you use. Leave unused fields at zero.
Please enter a package weight when dry-food price or daily grams are above zero.
This tool calculates cost only. It does not recommend a serving amount or assess nutritional suitability.
How the cat food cost calculation works
Dry-food daily cost equals the package price divided by package weight, multiplied by grams used per day. Wet-food daily cost equals the price per can or pouch multiplied by the number used per day. Mixed feeding adds the two daily figures. The monthly estimate uses 30.4 days; the annual estimate uses 365 days.
Compare cost without comparing unlike foods
- Use the price you actually pay, after discounts and shipping.
- Use the edible package weight, not shipping weight.
- Enter the serving amount for the exact product and your cat—not a generic internet estimate.
- For mixed feeding, enter only the portion of each format used per day.
- Remember that calories, moisture and nutritional purpose differ; price per gram alone does not decide suitability.
Costs that do not appear on the shelf label
Include food wasted after opening, storage containers, refrigeration space, shipping subscriptions, price changes and special handling. A larger bag may cost less per gram but lose value if freshness declines before it is used. A multi-pack may be cheaper per portion but only if the food remains suitable and your cat eats it consistently.
Before changing food to reduce cost
Check whether the food is intended as a complete diet for your cat’s life stage or as a complementary product, topper or treat. Change diets gradually when appropriate for the individual cat and seek veterinary guidance for kittens, pregnant cats, cats with medical conditions or prescription diets.

Frequently asked questions
Is wet cat food always more expensive than dry food?
It often costs more per day, but the answer depends on the exact product, package price and serving amount. Compare complete daily feeding costs rather than package prices alone.
Can I use the calculator for more than one cat?
Yes. Enter the combined daily amount for all cats, or calculate each cat separately if they eat different foods.
Does the cheapest food per day offer the best value?
No. Nutritional adequacy, life stage, health needs, acceptance, waste and availability all affect value. Cost is one decision factor.
