The short answer
Cat Mate C500 is the clearest low-tech starting point for several covered wet-food portions because its five-compartment tray, digital timer, twin ice packs, battery operation, and washable parts are plainly documented. It is not refrigerator-equivalent, so use it only after checking real food temperature and timing in your home.
PETLIBRO Polar is the most connected active-cooling design here, but its current US product page says food reaches about 54°F / 12°C in a 77°F / 25°C room. The FDA tells owners to keep a refrigerator at 40°F / 4.4°C or below. We therefore do not treat Polar’s cooling as the same thing as standard refrigeration or accept “three days” as a universal safe holding time.
Temperature matters more than the word “fresh”
The FDA advises promptly refrigerating or discarding unused canned or pouched pet food and setting the refrigerator to 40°F / 4.4°C or below. A lid limits exposure and an ice pack slows warming, but neither proves that the food stayed at that temperature. Load cold food, follow its label, measure the food—not just the room—and discard leftovers promptly.
For kittens, older cats, pregnant cats, cats with immune or digestive illness, prescription diets, or raw food, ask your veterinarian for a specific storage and feeding plan.
How we researched wet-food feeders
We started with official manufacturer pages rather than retailer listings. The caveat changes how we rank it. PETLIBRO’s current FAQ says its lab test cooled food to around 54°F / 12°C at 77°F / 25°C ambient, while FDA refrigerator guidance is 40°F / 4.4°C or below. PETLIBRO also advises against raw food. Treat the company’s “up to 72 hours” statement as a manufacturer claim to validate against the food label, your veterinarian’s advice, and a real food-temperature test—not as a universal food-safety rule.

How to choose by the real problem
Several small wet meals while you are out for the day
Start with a covered rotating tray such as the C500. Load chilled food, freeze the ice packs fully, place the feeder away from sun and heat, and measure the food temperature at the latest scheduled opening under the warmest realistic room conditions.
App control and no ice-pack rotation
Polar is the relevant architecture, but app convenience does not remove the temperature question. Decide using the measured food temperature and the food label, not the product category name.
Only one or two delayed openings
The C200 is simpler and easier to explain to a sitter. Its timer range should not be confused with safe storage duration.
One cat steals wet food
Use microchip access or physically separate rooms. A timed tray controls when food appears; it does not control which cat eats after the lid opens.
A safer real-home temperature check
- Chill the unopened food as directed and prepare a fully frozen ice pack if the feeder uses one.
- Load the exact portion and feeder location you plan to use.
- Run the longest realistic schedule on a warm day, away from the cat.
- At serving time, measure the center of the food with a clean food thermometer—not the plastic tray or surrounding air.
- If the food is above the temperature required by its label or your veterinarian, shorten the interval or change the setup.
- Repeat after power interruptions, seasonal temperature changes, or any change in portion size.

How long can wet cat food stay in an automatic feeder?

Is an ice-pack feeder refrigerated?
Not automatically. It is an insulated or covered tray with passive cooling unless the manufacturer provides evidence otherwise. Measure the food itself and compare it with storage directions.
Can I use raw cat food?
Raw food requires stricter handling and carries pathogen risk. PETLIBRO specifically advises against raw food in Polar. Ask your veterinarian and follow the raw-food manufacturer’s handling instructions rather than extending the times used for commercial canned food.
What is best for two cats?
