Feeder compatibility matcher

Measure several pieces of kibble and enter the widest dimension. The tool treats missing manufacturer specifications as unknown, not compatible. Every row is labelled as an exact-range match, a partially documented model, or a model whose manufacturer does not publish the kibble size.

Measure the widest point of 10 pieces; enter the largest.
Wet-food tray feeders are a different category.
Shape can affect jams even when the diameter fits.
Gram claims are nominal. The matcher flags models that publish only a volume.
Backup duration and app access are separate questions.
Availability and model revisions vary by country.

What kibble size works in an automatic cat feeder?

Quick answer: published limits in this database range from 2–12 mm on several compact dispensers to a maximum of 19.05 mm (3/4 inch) on the PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed. A feeder’s maximum diameter is not a promise that every shape will dispense reliably. Square, flat, oily or irregular pieces can bridge inside the chute, and a two-bowl splitter may reduce the usable size.

Portion weights are nominal manufacturer references. Most feeders meter a volume, so two foods can produce different gram weights at the same setting.

Verification update: HoneyGuardian A303D/A305D now has a manufacturer-supplied exact-model manual confirming dry food and a 2–15 mm kibble range, so it can appear as a verified specification match. Earlier online manual versions may state 2–12 mm; MeowBay records the supplied manual and verification date without claiming independent hand-testing. Cat Mate C3000 has a verified 16 mm maximum but no published minimum. PetSafe does not publish a kibble diameter for the Smart Feed 2nd Gen. Partial and unpublished records never appear as verified matches.

How do you measure kibble for an automatic feeder?

  1. Sample 10 pieces.
Do not measure only the smallest piece in the bag.
  2. Measure the widest point.
Use a millimetre ruler or caliper, including thick edges.
  3. Leave a reliability margin.
Near the stated maximum, run the 10-dispense test before relying on the feeder.

Diameter is only the first filter. Record shape, surface oil, broken crumbs and whether pieces stack across the outlet. Do not grind prescription or therapeutic food to force it through a feeder without veterinary and manufacturer guidance.

Which automatic feeder handles large kibble?

From the exact specifications reviewed here, PetSafe Healthy Pet Simply Feed publishes the largest maximum at 19.05 mm, followed by PETLIBRO Space at 18 mm, Cat Mate C3000 at 16 mm and Whisker Feeder-Robot at about 15.88 mm. That is a screening order—not a reliability ranking.

Two limits matter: the base feeder and every accessory in the food path. PetSafe’s optional two-pet splitter, for example, has a smaller published limit than the Healthy Pet Simply Feed base unit. Whisker recommends a hopper insert for some large, square or unusually shaped kibble. Always match the exact accessory and model revision.

Why feeder portion grams are estimates

Many automatic feeders rotate an impeller or open a fixed chamber. The machine controls volume, while the label and your feeding plan usually use grams or calories. Dense small kibble can weigh more than airy large kibble in the same chamber. That is why “10 g per portion” should be treated as a starting estimate.

The MeowBay 10-dispense accuracy test

  1. Tare a kitchen scale with the empty bowl.
  2. Dispense the same setting 10 times, weighing each output separately.
  3. Add the 10 weights and divide by 10 for the average.
  4. Record the lightest and heaviest result; a wide spread can signal bridging or inconsistent pieces.
  5. Repeat after changing food, cleaning the rotor or adding a splitter.

Use the measured average in the Automatic Feeder Portion Calculator, and compare it with the feeding amount recommended for your cat. A feeder setting is not a veterinary calorie prescription.

What causes automatic feeder food jams?

Common causes include kibble wider than the stated outlet, mixed shapes, fragments accumulating around the rotor, an overfilled hopper, an incorrectly installed bowl or splitter, and oily residue increasing friction. A jam warning in an app is useful only if the feeder detects the blockage and remains connected.

If a feeder misses meals, follow the exact manual, empty and unplug the machine before handling the food path, clean and dry removable parts, and run repeated supervised cycles. Use our automatic feeder not dispensing food guide for the troubleshooting sequence.

Will an automatic feeder still work without Wi-Fi or power?

These are two separate failures. Some smart feeders retain a saved schedule when internet service drops, but remote commands, logs and alerts stop. During a power cut, the feeder also needs installed, charged batteries—and some models disable selected functions on backup power. Never interpret “works offline” as “everything works normally.”

Before leaving home, disconnect Wi-Fi briefly, then test a scheduled meal. On another day, simulate loss of mains power using the manufacturer-approved backup configuration. See automatic feeders without Wi-Fi for non-connected options.

Do desiccant bags affect feeder compatibility?

A desiccant bag does not make oversized kibble fit, but it can help manage moisture inside a sealed lid when used exactly as instructed. Replacement size, holder design and interval are model-specific. Do not place a loose packet where a cat can reach it, and do not assume a generic packet is food-contact appropriate. Build the replacement schedule around the exact manual, climate and condition of the packet.

Automatic feeder compatibility questions

Can I use large kibble in a PETLIBRO feeder?

It depends on the exact model. The verified maximum in this database is 15 mm for Granary 2, Air Smart, One RFID and Granary Wi-Fi, while the PETLIBRO Space page publishes 18 mm. Granary 2’s official page contains a conflicting wider FAQ figure, so MeowBay uses 15 mm conservatively.

Why does my automatic feeder dispense different gram amounts?

Most feeders meter food by chamber volume rather than weighing each release. Kibble density, size, shape, crumbs and hopper pressure can change the gram weight. Run 10 identical dispenses and use the measured average.

Can an automatic feeder dispense semi-moist cat food?

Only use semi-moist food when the exact manufacturer explicitly allows it. In this review, selected PetSafe models and Whisker Feeder-Robot publish dry/semi-moist compatibility; many compact feeders are dry-only.

Will a two-cat splitter work with large kibble?

Not automatically. The splitter becomes the narrowest part of the food path and can impose a smaller limit than the feeder. It can also split portions unevenly depending on kibble shape and installation.

What should I do before relying on a feeder while away?

Confirm the exact model and manual, complete at least 10 supervised dispenses with the actual food, test scheduled feeding without Wi-Fi, test approved backup power, install fresh batteries and arrange a human check-in. A feeder is not a substitute for appropriate daily care.

Dataset changelog

  • October 3, 2026 — version 1.0: published 15 exact-model records, 10 verified exact ranges and 5 records pending full range verification.
  • WOPET Cube Lite CL11 and HoneyGuardian SF35 moved to verified after exact-model documentation was located.
  • October 6, 2026 — verification update: HoneyGuardian A303D/A305D moved to verified after support supplied an exact-model manual specifying dry food and a 2–15 mm kibble range. The specification was verified; the feeder was not independently hand-tested.
  • Unknown values remain unknown. MeowBay does not infer a missing minimum, maximum, market feature or accessory fit.

How MeowBay built this database

MeowBay recorded specifications from official manufacturer product, FAQ and manual pages for the exact models shown. We preserved missing fields as unknown, marked regional sources, separated volume from gram estimates, and used the narrower value when an official page contradicted itself. This is a living specification database, not laboratory testing.

Last source check: October 3, 2026. Recheck the model code, market, manual and checkout page before buying because manufacturers can revise hardware and documentation.

Editorial and safety note: This page helps screen product fit. It does not replace the product manual, a pet sitter, veterinary nutrition advice or monitoring for a cat with medical needs.
