The example starts with no usable filter stock and excludes any filter supplied with the device.

Across three planning years, ten packs supply 80 sets for $269.90; 78 are used and two remain. The allocated cost of 26 sets is $87.72, but that is not the cash required to buy four packs in the first year. This distinction explains why multiplying a per-filter price by annual use can understate the first checkout budget.

For your own calculation: replacements to purchase = maximum of zero and required replacements minus usable stock. Divide by the number of complete replacement sets per pack and round up to a whole pack. Multiply by the delivered pack price. Keep any included filter separate: a pack containing eight filters and eight sponges does not automatically represent sixteen complete changes.

Two fountains can share inventory only when compatibility matches

In the same hypothetical budget, two fountains using 26 sets each need 52 sets. Buying seven compatible eight-set packs together costs $188.93 and leaves four sets. Independently buying four packs for each fountain costs $215.92 and leaves twelve. What does the connected option cost above a simpler offer?

Compare complete offers over the same ownership period. For example, suppose your own quotes show a connected fountain at $90 and a simpler one at $40. Suppose further that their respective two-year consumable purchases, already adjusted for included stock and leftover packs, would be $190 and $120. These are hypothetical inputs, not quotes for the reviewed fountain or a named competitor.

The two-year totals would be $280 and $160 before electricity, shipping or any selected service plan. The connected option’s $120 difference is equivalent to $5 a month across 24 months. That calculation helps you ask whether the documented connected functions are worth that additional amount to you; it does not demonstrate a financial saving or health benefit.

Add a required plan to the offer that needs it, rather than spreading the same plan cost across both options. Keep uncertain future prices visible as assumptions and try a second budget if they change. A short promotional discount can lower the initial payment while leaving the ongoing difference largely intact. No cost estimate can compensate for the wrong model, an unavailable replacement part or a function the selected version does not provide.

Checking Wi-Fi cannot establish that a blocked water path is clear, and cleaning a rotor cannot make an unidentified household total into an individual record.

Use the exact-model manual for permitted checks and isolate power before handling parts as directed. Record the mode, tank level, visible flow and the wording of any error. If water is flowing but the app is stale, report those two observations together. Make a purchase decision without inventing a score

Choose a simpler alternative when you only need a dependable drinking surface and do not intend to use the connected record. For separate diets or health monitoring in a shared home, specify the identity requirement before comparing capacities or battery claims.

Keep a short checkout note containing the selected model, replacement code, available parts, delivered costs and applicable return terms. During any return period, assess voluntary use and the maintenance workload you actually encounter.
