Questions to send the manufacturer before buying
Ask for answers for the exact model number sold in your country:
- Can I program meals without an internet connection?
- Does an established schedule continue during a router outage?

- Which functions run on backup power, and for how long under stated conditions?
- Does resetting or re-pairing remove the schedule?
- How can I confirm a meal physically when app records are unavailable?
Keep the response with your device notes. “Our feeders support offline feeding” is not as useful as an explanation that names your model, its limitations, and any required settings.
Check your setup safely at home
Use the manual’s approved procedure and make sure the cats are not relying on the test meal. Arrange their normal food separately. Avoid switching off household internet if it supports security or other important services; use a manufacturer-recommended test or ask support instead.
For an appropriate supervised check, record the model, firmware, schedule time, power source, and actual bowl result. Test one condition at a time so the result is interpretable. Restore normal operation afterward and verify the real feeding schedule again.
One successful check demonstrates that event under those conditions. It does not establish reliability through a longer outage, a different firmware version, a depleted battery, or a simultaneous power failure. Do not present an informal household check as a certified reliability test.
Build a backup that does not share the same weakness
A second notification from the same service is not independent confirmation. A useful backup is a person who can visit, identify the correct food, and provide it manually. Leave the feeding instructions accessible without requiring them to log into your app.
Keep a suitable manual bowl and the correct food available. Explain what not to do as well as what to do: do not repeatedly reset the machine, assume missing logs mean no food was served, or automatically add another full meal without checking.
Which type should you choose?
Choose based on the required failure tolerance. If you do not need remote control, simple on-device programming may be worth considering. If you need app features, evaluate their dependency and the fallback routine alongside convenience.
